Shuchi Malhotra, Lead Advisor- Carbon Markets, Environmental Defense Fund
Shuchi Malhotra serves as Lead Advisor for Carbon Markets at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in India. With over two decades of experience since the Kyoto Protocol era, she brings extensive expertise in carbon market mechanisms, project finance, and climate risk assessments. She has advised climate funds and corporates on structuring carbon transactions, navigating Article 6 framework, and unlocking climate-aligned investments.
Shuchi's professional journey commenced during the foundational years of global carbon markets at EY and First Climate, where she managed the complete project lifecycle under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), strategic carbon credit procurement opportunities and developed comprehensive risk assessment frameworks for climate projects. Prior to her role at EDF, Shuchi held the position of Director at Deloitte India, overseeing a diverse range of climate-focused initiatives. Her work spanned developing net-zero strategies, building capacity on carbon markets, designing frameworks to access carbon finance, and undertaking climate risk assessments.
A distinguished alumni of IIT Roorkee, Shuchi has emerged as a prominent thought leader and convener within India's sustainability community. She is recognized for designing and facilitating dialogues and executive-level capacity-building programs focused on evolving sustainability regulations, carbon market dynamics, Article 6 implementation, and related climate policy frameworks. In her current capacity at EDF, Shuchi bridges global best practices with India's development priorities, focusing on market design and integrity, institutional capacity, and accelerating climate action in India's transition toward a sustainable, climate-resilient economy.
