Rahul Tongia, Senior Fellow, CSEP

Rahul Tongia is a Senior Fellow with CSEP in New Delhi, where his work focuses on technology and policy, especially for sustainable development. He co-leads the Energy, Natural Resources, and Sustainability group at CSEP, and is also active in broader issues of technology. Dr. Tongia’s work spans the entire gamut of energy and electricity, with focuses on supply options including renewable energy (covering finance, grid integration, etc.); smart grids, which use innovative information and communications technology to improve management of the electric utility grid; issues of access and quality; and broader issues of reforms and regulations, including electricity and energy pricing. Another thread of his work focuses on climate equity and the energy transition. His book Future of Coal in India: Smooth Transition or Bumpy Road Ahead (2020) was awarded a Top Energy Policy Book to read in 2021 by BookAuthority.

Rajah Chaudhry, Head of Strategy, APAC and India, NBA

In his current role, Rajah Chaudhry is responsible for shaping the NBA’s business across Asia-Pacific including India, Australia, Japan, Philippines, South Korea and other countries across Southeast Asia and Oceania and pursuing growth opportunities that will help expand the popularity of both the NBA and basketball across these regions. Chaudhry also oversees the league’s business development initiatives including grassroots programs for youth, elite player development, and relationships with current and prospective marketing, media, broadcast, and merchandise partners. Chaudhry reports to NBA Asia Managing Director Ramez Sheikh.

An entrepreneur and experienced business leader, Chaudhry comes with over 20 years of finance and business leadership experience. Prior to joining the NBA in 2020, he was the Head of Asia for Luxury Escapes, a luxury online travel company based in Australia. Before that, he held multiple other pivotal roles as Founder and CEO of Paycelerate, a marketplace for short-term investing and working capital, Co-Founder of ChinaScope, a financial technology company, and as an investment banker for close to 10 years, holding positions of Director at Renaissance Capital and Vice President at Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong and Sydney.

Chaudhry is passionate about building, financing and growing businesses and managing and motivating people to achieve collective goals.

A graduate with first class honors in chemical engineering from the University of South Wales, Chaudhry currently resides in Hong Kong

Rajeev Chaba is the President and Managing Director of MG Motor India, the India unit of the iconic Morris Garages brand. As one of the most renowned automotive experts with over three decades of industry experience, Mr Chaba has been instrumental in driving the MG brand in the country.

In his role at MG Motor India, Mr Chaba has nurtured a strong, organisation-wide focus on technology as a key differentiator. Under his leadership, the marquee brand has successful introduced the Hector – its first India-centric product and the country’s first internet car – in the market. Coming equipped with a host of revolutionary, industry-first features, such as the next-generation iSMART technology and OTA updates, MG Hector has set a new benchmark for tech innovation in the Indian automotive space.

Over the course of his career, Mr Chaba has held various senior positions with top global automotive brands such as GM across multiple international markets. In 2005, he was the President & MD of GM in India. He has also served as the VP of Marketing & Sales at Shanghai-General Motors (SGM) in China and as the Chairman & MD for GM in North Africa & Egypt. Mr Chaba started his career with Eicher Motors in 1990 after completing his Masters’ degree from IIM Bangalore.

Prior to joining MG Motor India, Mr Chaba’s most recent assignments include Global COO at Vanguard Logistics, USA, and Operating Partner at UK-based private equity firm ManCapital.
